Early Life

The Ethiopian pop singer Lemlem H/Michael Eshetu was born on March 20th and raised in Bale region agarfa woreda. she got her first degree in theatrical arts and her second degree in Theater for Development from Addis Ababa University.

She began singing as a child at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and used to sing and perform at family events. Her inspiration came from well-known Ethiopian artist like Aster Aweke as her father used to buy her the legendary Artist’s greatest hits.

Career in Music

She started singing professionally after joining the “Yegna” project.  Her current album was conceived with the help of legendary Artists and Producers besides herself, it came to life through her coworker Wondwossen Yihub, which took them nearly four years to finish. She has some best stage performances both as a group and personally on different stages. But it was the launching of the “ Yegna” stage performance that put her on the map.

The most difficult thing she discovered was that there was no one who could produce music in the music industry and there was no space for newcomers. Her strength is paying whatever it takes for the thing she loves, which means she follows her gut and does what is expected to fulfill her need, which is why it took her this long to produce a good music album.

Collaborations

Lemlem H/Michael has worked with the greats of Ethiopia’s Music scene. Her latest album has been composed with the likes of Elias Melka, Abegaz Shiota, Michael Hailu and Tamiru Amare.

Lyrics on her latest album has been done with the collaboration with Wendwosen yihub, Nathanael Girmachew and Habtamu Boggale. With melody by Elias Melka, Anteneh Werash, Ahmed Teshome, Bisrat Surafel, Habtamu Boggale and Esubalew Yitayew.

Acting Career

Lemlem’s diverse talents extends to the Ethiopia’s Acting Scene as well, with works with the legendary theater director Abate Mekuria playing Hager Malet (ሀገር ማለት).
Her Work as an actor has had huge impact on her overall career as her fans still recognize her as Mimi.
Lemlem was also a producer for the movies Timetaleh Beye (ትመጣለህ ብዬ) as well as And-Jegna (አንድ ጀግና) with her close personal friend.
