Early Life

Henok Mehari is the Co-Founder, Pianist, and Lead singer of the Mehari Brothers Band, which was established in 2006. He was born and raised by his father Mehari Abraha (Singer, Songwriter, and Saxophonist) and his mother Atsenesh Abebe (Dancer / Choreographer), in the area of Addis Ababa, Arada Sub City, commonly known as Piassa. 

His inspiration to lead a life in the music industry started after being part of a Gospel Choir which shaped most of his young adult life. He then followed his parent’s footsteps and pursued his dream in music when he grew up.

Henok got his Elementary school education at  Ras Abebe Aregay and high school at Entoto Yared music school.  He finished his education in music at Adiss Ababa University of Fine Arts, Yared Music School. He has a hobby of acting as well as, writing and producing movies, and music videos as well as publishing his autobiography.  He is now been married for 12 years and a father of three.

Music Career

Henok also has a reputation for working with different firms over the years producing lots of Tv and radio commercial music productions as a creative partner ,outstanding song writer & music producer. He has a reputation working with different artists by writing and producing hit songs like Endayglegn for Zeritu Kebede, Chewata for Wendimu Jirra, Mirchaye for Tsedenya, Edmeyen Bemulu for Abrsh zeget and many more.

Performance

Because of the quality and nature of the album, Henok Mehari had many opportunities on international platforms. In July, 2016, Henok was invited by Coke Studio to Nairobi, Kenya for a one-week video and audio recording. His performance was of very high standards that Coke Studio used one of his songs ‘Hoya Hoye’ as a promotional video for the whole continent.

Since then, Henok Mehari released his album 790  and got a huge response from fans all over the world.

Musicology

Henok also has brought a weekly television talk show with an exciting and brilliant music and talk show concept called MUSICOLOGY it has been running for the last three years on Kana and now on DSTV ABOL tv .
‘Musicology has earned a huge respect from fellow musicians and music fans with its beautiful live performances and versatility ,intellectual perspective and philosophy for the past three years since he started the television talk show .

Awards and Nominations

Furthermore, Henok Mehari broke a huge record for Ethiopia by being nominated for the All African Music Awards (AFRIMA) in the continental category of ‘Best R&B/SOUL Band in AFRICA’. He is the first and only Ethiopian male artist that was nominated and won at the continental level so far. 

On November 5th, 2016, Henok and his Brothers made the whole of Ethiopia proud by coming home from Lagos, Nigeria with the award in hand. And he was also a nominee again in 2017 in two categories for Best East African male artist in regional and Best Reggae Ragga and Dancehall artist/group in the continental category also performed on the AFRIMA stage alongside huge African acts like Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, etc..… he also performed in August 2017 with his brothers and fellow performers, in Spain’s Rototom Sunsplash reggae festival representing Ethiopia for the very first time.

Future with Sewasew

Henok signed with Sewasew Multimedia to further reach his fans and followers.

He mentions those that want to follow in his footsteps, “…my advice for someone who wants to follow in my footsteps is don’t follow my steps too much, create your own footsteps and identity, be your genuine self as much as possible, try to be faithful to yourself and your art and don’t listen to any unnecessary guidance from critics except the constructive once …“
